Ryan Daniel Buell was born on July 8, 1982, in Corry, Pennsylvania. He was raised by his mother, Shelly Bonavita Lundberg. He is married to Sergey Poberezhny, a colleague from the Paranormal State Show. His mother, Shelley Lundberg, is said to have remarried and have more children.

He was part of the debating team at his high school and acted in plays. During this time in high school, he became the editor of his school newspaper. He also created a daily news show with a friend. After high school, Ryan earned a degree in Journalism and Anthropology from the University of Pennsylvania.

At the age of 19, while still at university, he pioneered the Paranormal Research Society. All the work he did there was a valuable experience that he used for the television show “Paranormal State”. Buell created and coordinated the show (Paranormal State), and his good work led him to become Executive Producer of the movie American Ghost Hunter, which was released in 2010.

For 2011, Buell announced a tour of 41 cities for the film. He was also co-producer of Ghost Prophecies. The final episode of Paranormal State was aired in May 2011 after Buell and his team decided to end the series. It was in its fifth season.

In his opinion, his sexuality was not reason enough to shy away from his Catholic faith. Since he had grown up in a Catholic home, he encouraged others in similar situations to do the same.

In July 2012, Ryan Buell announced that he had been diagnosed with pancreatic cancer. He thanked fans and people who sympathized with him. He in turn sympathized with others who suffered from cancer and other diseases.
