Hideo Kojima is a game producer, screenwriter, director, and designer who is very popular because he is the brain behind the Metal Gear series, which is one of the most popular game series. After working at Konami Digital Entertainment for a very long time, Kojima left the company in 2015 to take care of Kojima Productions, which he founded in 2005.
Hideo Kojima’s Biography
Kojima was born on August 24, 1963, in Setagaya, Tokyo, Japan, where he grew up with his two older siblings until the age of 4. The family then moved to Osaka, but instead of settling there, the family will move again to Shirasaki and then to Kawanishi, Hyogo. Unfortunately, he would lose his father when he was just 13 years old.
As a small child, he dreamed of becoming an artist or filmmaker, but there was the idea that they would hardly pay the bills, and he needed a stable job, as his uncle was also an artist but had a very hard time making a living.
Contrary to what you might want to make-believe, the Japanese video game designer did not initially study anything that brought him to where he is today. Instead, for economic reasons, he began to study, although at that time he was also engaged in writing short stories, none of which he was able to publish in the numerous magazines to which he submitted them.
After spending his years at university playing video games such as Super Mario Bros. (1985) and The Portopia Serial Murder Case (1983), Hideo decided to enter the video game industry as soon as he finished his education. He joined Konami’s MSX in 1986, where he began his career as a designer and planner.
After joining Konami, Kojima worked as an assistant director on the sequel to Antarctic Adventure, Penguin Adventure. He had a completely different idea of how games should be made and put it into the first game he was responsible for, Lost Warld. Unfortunately for him, the game did not make it through because it was thrown aside by his superiors.
The next pressure for him was to deliver on his next game, which happens to be Metal Gear. The project was given to him by a senior associate. Interestingly, he decided to use his own idea and developed a stealth game like no other before him and one that would shape the development of stealth games decades later.
Using metal equipment, Kojima and his team developed a tactical stealth action game, where, in turn, everything was right and where the only question was about the technological limitations.
After the game was released in 1987, Hideo Kojima worked on many games with Konami, including all the games in the Metal Gear franchise, until he left the company in 2015. He worked on Snatcher/Policenauts games, the Tokimeki Memorial series, the Zone of the Enders series, the Boktai series, and the Castlevania series, among others.
He founded Kojima Productions in 2005, which initially started as a subsidiary of Konami. After spending many years with Konami and rising to the position of Vice President, he decided to leave the company in December 2015 and settled down to work in his own company, which is now working on a PlayStation 4 game, Death Stranding.
For a man who has been very successful in the lucrative world of gambling, there is no reason why one should expect him to own anything other than a huge fortune. Apart from that, Hideo Kojima has net assets estimated at 30 million dollars.
One of the things that the video game designer has kept away from the public is his private life, so it is difficult to tell the women he has dealt with in the past. However, it is known that he has been married for a very long time, although his wife’s name is not known. But we know that they have a child together.
In his early days at Konami, Kojima wanted to leave the company after his ideas were repeatedly rejected and he was frustrated.
There are many who believe that Hideo Kojima is, in reality, the mysterious Joakim Mogren, while others believe that the head of Moby Dick Studio is in reality, Cliff Bleszinski.
