Christopher Gilbert Perez is an American songwriter, guitarist, and author. He was born as the son of Gilbert Perez and Carmen Medina on August 14, 1969, in San Antonio, Texas, United States. The Grammy award winner gained great recognition as the lead guitarist of the Tejano band Selena Y Los Dinos. Eventually, he dated and married the band’s lead singer, Selena.

For Chris, growing up did not go smoothly in any way, which is due to his parent’s divorce when he was barely four years old. His mother remarried four years after the divorce. Chris had no interest in his father’s profession as a computer technician, instead, he grew up with a wild enthusiasm for music and had a special passion for the guitar. He idolized Carlos Santana and learned most of his techniques and skills from him.
He started his music career with the Tejano band Selena Y Los Dinos. He was invited by the then bassist of the band, A.B Quintanilla III. He left the band after the murder of Selena in 1995 and the death of Selena completely ruined Chris psychologically and emotionally. It was so harmful to him that he began to abuse the use of drugs and consume excess alcohol.
The years went by, Chris sobered up a bit, he formed a band he called the Chris Pérez Band. He released his first album “Resurrection”, which won him a Grammy for best Latin rock album. The band disbanded soon after the release of their second album, Una Noche Mas. Since then he tried to commit himself to a long-term project, but it didn’t work out. He switched to Kumbia kings, which lasted from 2003-2006, and then to Kumbia all-stars, which lasted longer than the first one, from 2006-2011. His fans and the media blamed his lack of progress in fully reintegrating Kumbia on his long and unending mourning for his late wife Selena. And the facts supporting this claim seemed to be true when he wrote and published a book in 2012, To Selena, with Love.
Wife, Did He Remarry?
Chris married his bandmate and lead singer of the band, Selena Quintanilla, on April 2, 1992. It was known that the couple was happily married, but that happiness was soon ended when Selena was murdered by her former girlfriend, Yolanda Saldivar, on March 31, 1995, barely two days before their third anniversary as a married couple. Her death had a great impact on the actions of Chris, who has shown to this day that he has not yet filled the void left by Selena.
Nevertheless, he had to move on, and in 1996 his friend John Garza introduced him to Vanessa Villanueva. The two met in 1998 and finally married in 2001, the couple had two children, Cassie Pérez their daughter, and Noah Pérez their son. Villanueva filed for divorce in 2008, citing insurmountable differences in their marriage. First, a close friend of Vanessa claimed that she never wanted a divorce and decided to work on her differences. But in 2008 the couple divorced.
Chris never lost contact with the Quintanilla family, even when he was married to Villanueva and had two children with her, he still made sure to stay in touch with Selena’s family.
Pérez is currently engaged to Melissa Jimenez, a singer-songwriter. Jimenez confirmed the engagement on her Instagram page and published a picture of her engagement ring.
