Yvonne Strahovski was born on 30 July 1989 as Yvonne Jaqueline Strzechowski. She had changed her surname from Strzechowski to the phonetic pronunciation of Strahovski when she moved to America. Strahovski grew up in Werrington Downs, Sydney, New South Wales, where she was born to Polish immigrant Piotr Strzechowski, an electronics engineer, and Bozena, a laboratory technician. Strahovski speaks fluent Polish.
Yvonne showed a passion for acting as a young schoolgirl, and at the age of 12, she started taking acting lessons. Yvonne attended high school at Santa Sabina College and once played the role of Viola in a school production of Twelfth Night.
