Michele Joan Vandersall Tafoya, which is her full name, was born on December 17, 1964, in Manhattan Beach, California. When she was growing up, Michele, who was very close to her father, always watched one or the other sports program in front of the television, because her father, who was an engineer, was a sports lover. This influenced her life as a teenager, when she discovered her love for sports, first as a basketball player, and later, after finishing her education, as a sports reporter.

She had wanted to become an actress, but out of love for sports. The NBC athlete received her education at the University of California, where she earned a bachelor’s degree in mass communication. Looking at her career, she has been in news reporting for almost eternity. She started at KFAN-AM in Minneapolis as a sub-reporter from 1994 to 1998, and from there she joined CBS before joining ESPN in 2004. Born in Manhattan Beach, she left the network and joined NBC.
