Matt McGorry is an American actor and social activist. He won the hearts of his fans and critics with his role as Correctional Officer John Bennett in the Netflix series Orange Is the New Black (OITNB). He is also known for his roles in ABC’s How to Get Away with Murder and How He Fell in Love.

The OINTB actor was born on April 12, 1986, in Manhattan, New York, USA, as Matthew David McGorry. With a penchant for acting, he made his acting debut at the age of nine, appeared in the theatre, and performed magic, an act that kept him busy until his youth. He attended a theater high school, the Fiorello H. LaGuardia High School in New York, and then enrolled at Emerson College in Boston, Massachusetts.
Before his time on the silver screen and before his fame, Matt worked as a personal trainer and fitness expert for nearly a decade. He also worked as a competitive bodybuilder and participated in powerlifting competitions. In his prime, he could lift 576 pounds and be featured in various media including Men’s Health, Men’s Fitness, Muscle & Fitness, and Life & Style.
Matt was cast in his first movie, Thursday, in 2006 as lead actor Grey Malcolm and debuted five years later, in 2011, in the ABC daytime soap One Life to Live on TV. In 2013 he was thrust into the spotlight when he was cast as John Bennett in the original Netflix series Orange Is the New Black. His character was received with enthusiasm by fans and critics alike. The following year, he won a regular series in the ABC drama series How to Get Away with Murder, building on his success in Netflix drama. Matt McGorry Dating, Is He Gay?

His OITNB fans have a different opinion anyway. They had a little difficulty seeing the thin line between fiction and reality. He played Daya’s intimate lover in the original Netflix series, in which he left his lover with his unborn child in the third season of the series, an act that many viewers have not forgiven him for. The fans continued to identify with him as John Bennett, the fictional prison guard, rather than Matt, the actor, a fact that he did not give in when he repeated it.
